HIRWA Osee Ayaba Paulin, 7 years
When Osee was born he seemed to be developing like any newborn would. His mother, Marie Claire, felt blessed to have a child after suffering four miscarriages. Approximately five months after his birth his development seemed to be moving in reverse. Suddenly, Marie Claire reported, he stopped making any noise and he could no longer support his body. The prognosis for Osee was looking grim. At this time LWA understands that he was having convulsions from five months old and for some time he did not receive any of the proper treatment.Unfortunately, due to a lack of medicine and the money to afford therapy, Osee’s condition deteriorated quickly. It is estimated that Osee suffers from Cerebral Palsy with Epilepsy. After meeting Love With Actions, the family’s life completely turned around. Osee gained six kilograms after being included in a feeding program with help from LWA and its partners. Additionally, Marie Claire was able to learn how to better feed her son, picking the limited but healthy options he enjoys like bananas, milk, potatoes, meat sauce, and rice. Marie Claire has benefited significantly from the community network at the Center for Family Empowerment in Bumbogo. She reports that she no longer feels like she is struggling alone. The only familial support she receives comes from her husband, Jean Bosco, and her mother who offer baby sits Osee.
Marie Claire has learned how to communicate with her son in her own unique way. While he makes limited sound, his mother knows exactly what he needs. She has also discovered that Osee loves to be around large groups of people, especially watching other children play. Sometimes Osea will visit with the neighbor children or stay with his grandmother while his mother works. Though this young family’s journey has been long and challenging, LWA is proud of their progress. We look forward to many more years with Osee.
