Aime is a lovely young boy who has been physically disabled since birth. He has three siblings and stays with his mother Pacific Aime is a lovely young boy who has been physically disabled since birth, He has three siblings and stays with his mother. He was born with Spina Bifida and Club Foot, which left his lower body dysfunctional. His father disowned the family many years ago, claiming that Aime could not be his child because of his disabilities. He has no mental handicap and is a very smart and talkative boy. Aime loves to smile, play with his brothers, and listen to worship songs. He attends church regularly with his family, one of his favorite activities. Aime is currently at Rilima Orthopedic Hospital to fix his Club Foot. The treatment plan for Aime includes fixing his feet and physiotherapy so that he may learn to walk and/or stand without assistance. At this time, Love with Actions is providing the family with the insurance, food, and shelter they need. Though LWA is assisting Pacific (his mother) financially, she supports Aime and her two other children by herself with the baskets weaving project and sewing training LWA hopes she will gain total financial independence. She has no family in the area to help as they also disowned her after seeing Aime’s condition.
Pacific is extremely grateful for the women and other families in Bumbogo. The group is her only support and she looks forward to being with them a long time. She reports a positive change happening at the Center for Family Empowerment of LWA in Bumbogo, sharing that there is more awareness because these parents realize they are not alone and their children’s conditions are quite common. Aime lovingly shared his thoughts on LWA’s work saying, “[LWA] brought light into our lives.” Truthfully it is Aime’s bright smile that is the biggest blessing to us all.
